About an hour away from Amman in the North of Jordan is Ajloun. This area boasts sprawling pine forests and olive groves and a cool climate. It is the most important ecological and Historical Attraction in the Middle East. Its Medieval Arab Military Architecture gave birth to Ajloun as its Castle Qal’at Ar-Rabad which played a daring role in History by being the reason behind the defeat of The Crusaders eight centuries ago.

Ajloun Forest Reserve (The Great Outdoors)

Ajloun Hills is covered with woodlands of evergreen oaks, carob, strawberry and pistachio trees, also hosting very beautiful picnic areas for you to rest. This is one of Jordan’s most precious forest reserves, it lies among the tamed wilderness and has a variety of fascinating wildlife.

It is a camping resort and offers visitors a wide range of services catering to your unique wants and needs. There are between ten bungalows and five cabins available, the newly added cabins are tempting for more relaxed and comfortable experience. The cabins include a private bathroom, shower facilities and a terrace with spectacular views of the sprawling forest. There are also tents on offer for those who appeal to be more adventurous and authentic in the outdoors experience.

The activities include guided and self-guided trails and range between 1-5 hours, you have the options to select which would suit your needs. The trails include: The Soap Makers Trail an easy self-guided trail that takes you to the soap house where you can admire and buy the locally made extra virgin olive oil soap.

You have The Prophet’s Trail, a moderate 4 hour walk through spectacular landscape, ultimately reaching The Church of Mosaics of Mar Elyass. On offer you have a locally prepared picnic and well deserved cup of tea waiting. The Village Orchards Trail is difficult but well worth the effort. It’s a guided 12km walk in the middle of the evergreen forest and lush orchards, a stop over at the soap house to refresh at the village spring and enjoy a traditional home-made brunch.

The Reserve also has a Restaurant that offers full in house dining, whilst overlooking the most spectacular forest views in the country.
